Brian Allen was born near Houston, Texas in 1975. He began studying piano at age 5 and performed regularly in various recitals and competitions as a child. Brian studied trombone, piano and composition at Texas Tech University and received his bachelor’s in 1998 as well as his masters in composition in 2005.
He has performed throughout the world in various bands and with many famous musicians including Satoko Fuji, Tony Malaby, Mark Dresser and Anthony Braxton. He has also been collaborating on various projects with the principal of our school Jacob Koller for over 15 years.
Brian has a lot of experience teaching music. He has given workshops at more than 50 universities including Harvard, Berklee, Boston University and Prague Conservatory. He was instructor of brass, jazz and electronic music classes at Brazosport College and Oregon Festival of American Music.
Brian came to Japan in 2012 to do a tour with Jacob Koller and fell in love with Japanese culture. He is very excited to share his passion and love of music with Japanese children and adults. Brian is a native english speaker and also speaks Spanish. He is currently working on his Japanese skills.
